Review - I was really pleased and impressed with my review at the building deparmtent with all the plan examiners. They know what to look for and really care about the safety of the town. For a stand up review with lots of issues to resolve day after day, I feel they are doing a great job!

Review - The inspectors in this city are extremely inefficient! During renovations in the summer last year to a flat we rented they kept postponing scheduled inspections because someone didnt show up for work, another was on vacation, the third was too busy and so on and we couldn't move in for weeks, even though we had begun paying rent. The contractors also seem to be at their mercy (at least ours said he was) because unless inspections take place at regular times work cannot progress and begged us not to complain when we wanted to.

Review - There is a very real and ugly side to living in Hoboken. I called Mr. Arezzo's office on Dec 16th to report that my upstairs apartment and basement were covered in sediment from the house next door where renovation is going on. No action was taken to come and assess the problem until morning of Dec 22, when I called the Mayor's office. Mr Andreula was sent immediately to see the sediment and put a stop work order in. I've been into the house where the renovation is going on and found that the space between my apartment and my downstairs apartment is all open and I could see through my house and through to the house next to me. Opening is front to back. What is that all about? My Andreula said problem was in the attic. How can a thing like this happen? It was known from the beginning that there was no brick wall separating my house from the house being renovated. Why was this pre-existing condition not taken into account? When Mr Arrezzo did come on the afternoon of Dec 22nd, he was very abrupt with me and made very little of the problem in my apartment, although I have lost the enjoyment of my home, which I happen to pay $8,500 a year in taxes on. I was totally disappointed and appalled in the lack of interest from the building inspections department regarding a matter of extreme distress to me and a violation of my rights while work was going on next door.
