Review - A good range of products - pretty much anything you need is here and it is well laid out. It is also well stocked - this is a good food store but it is not a great store.

What lets it down, and the previous reviewer has commented on this, is the lack of focus and attention the staff give to customers. I can tell you what life problems they have as we routinely hear them chatting at the checkouts. You form the impression that as a customer you are nothing more than a nuisance and their life would be far better without customers; sadly the economics of that option is evidently not understood. That is a pity, as the employees clearly have experience and knowledge of shoprite and when they do assist you it is prompt and efficient.

The payment POS terminal system is very efficient but many of the devices have suffered a lot of wear and tear and need replacing - this partly down to customers not knowing how to use them.

If Shoprite can implement effective staff training in customer handling then this would be a great store but if all you need is just food and drink then you can't really fault it.

Review - I live in downtown Jersey City, and even though I'm across the street from C-Town, I go to Shoprite for their selection and better prices. That said, as far as grocery stores go, there are some service enhancements I would recommend.

I would - just once - like to see a cashier that is happy to see me, or at least acknowledge I exist. I am, after all, paying their salary. It would be nice to have my price total read to me, or to be wished a good day. Some continue conversations with other cashiers as if I'm not even there.

Another qualm: about 18 months ago, Shoprite converted to a new point of service debit/credit card kiosk. IT IS SO SLOW! Why does it take 8 or 9 steps just to make a purchase? So many stores offer a 2- or 3-step process. Their old machines were so much better.

Express lines at 8:30 p.m. on a weeknight should not be crowded, so they need to hire more cashiers.

They shouldn't charge $4.19 for Morningstar Farms products (a line of soy-based veggie foods) - it's extortion considering their competitors sell them so much more cheaply.

It would also be nice if they monitored customers and prevented them from bringing those large BJ's carts in.. they take up too much room in the aisle.

Review - I have never seen such horrible cstomer service. As others commented, the cashiers are so incredibly rude and lazy. They usually do carry on a conversation with someone 2,3, or 4 aisles over during your check-out. I have lived in this area for 4 years, but haven't gone to shop rite in a long time b/c of this reason. Biggest store in town w/ best selection, but shopping there is a nightmare.

Review - I agree this place is mobbed every day of the week and at every time I’ve gone there, pretty much what you would expect from a place called “Metro Plaza”. I shudder to think what will happen when there is a run on this store for a snow storm or something. I understand we are in the city but please could they order for it. Routinely there are whole product categories (all brands) that are completely empty, just wiped out. If you have a car go to the A&P; it is less than a mile away and not nearly as much of a headache.

Review - This is the worst Shoprite I have ever been to. The long lines and crowded isles I can deal with. The never having any baskets at the front of the store is annoying but not unworkable. It's the time after time again I have entered entire sections being wiped out, when items are NOT on sale. It's finding bread on the shelf that was sell bye a week earlier and when complaining to customer service about the lack of products was told, it's the customers fault, they come in and wipe us out and there's nothing we can do about it. Of course there are things you can do about it, fix your ordering patterns, time your deliveries better, limit customer quantities on scare items. I now go to the A&P; up the road, much cleaner, friendlier and actually STOCKED with product.
